Meru Regionals: Cruising our way to National Levels

I have been looking for the right adjective to try and explain what we have achieved so far, and the closest I ever got was FANTASTIC. The Snipers set off to Meru with only one thing in mind and that was to get as far as we would, and that was by beating the best that crossed our way.

Having been to Meru previously, the locality did not seem that strange as it was the first time we were their. Although the rain had fallen down a couple of times, and the pitch had started growing grass, it still felt more like our home having won all our games previously on that pitch.

I am also a footballer!

Our ladies teams was up next, against the same team, on the ladies Like De Javu, our ladies won 2-1. The moment of the match was Cate's goal, which left everyone wondering and thinking. If you missed it, then there is little we can do but tell you that it was a wonder-goal and a perfect one in that matter. And that sealed it for The Snipers on day one.

Anto: aaah! ziiiii acha uongo

Hug and Kisses

Abbas: This is how you should do it!

Our first match was against KMTC Mombasa, who wore shades of blue-probably to try and tell us something where they come from. As it is with our game, we game them time to feel at home, express themselves before getting our work started. After that, the final whistle was what mattered most, handing us a 3-0 victory over The Coastecians.
Sweat and Joy of Victory

Day two started of smoothly, and we were back on the pitch with an Embu side that know exactly what we are capable of, after hitting them 7-1 in the zonal levels. This time around they manned their barricades very well, with a tight and full packed defense. All we needed was a minimum of a draw of any kind, and we would qualify for the nationals. And we got it in the end, when the game ended 0-0. Alex (The Capt.) had to be substituted during the interval, having sustained an injury on the knee, and could not carry on.

After the game, as a sign of personal appreciation, Madam Principal joined The Snipers, and bought the team smokies to crown the winning strike that we have had.

Day two of The Ladies Snipers was also very successful, winning 1-0 on a solitary goal scored by 'Miss Swagger, against Embu KMTC. The goal come in the first and it could have been 2-0 at the break had the umpire not called it half time, before Maureen re-took her  flick (penalty). This left every Snipers firing at the Umpire, asking why he wouldn't wait for the flick to be taken before breaking the game at half time. All the same, with that unfair play, the ladies still held on and won the game comfortably.
SWAGGER!!!
Waaah! I think I need a serious rest

DID YOU KNOW THAT:
1. Both The Snipers and The Snipers Ladies have not lost a single match in this competition? (UNBEATEN)
2. The Snipers have scored a total of 13 goals, and conceded only 1 Goal? The Snipers 13-1 Others
Now our focus has shifted and taken a elevated angle, looking straight at the Hockey Trophy and how we will be bringing it back to KMTC Nyeri. The Nationals will be held in Nairobi, and reliable sources have it that we will be playing at City Park. Playing on City Park is like a dream come through for many of us, and hoping that this is true, then we will stop at nothing than getting both trophies home. ITS OUR TIME!
WATCH OUT! We are coming for you too

Review of Clinical Game at Nakuru

The journey to Nakuru took about three hours, and we thank God that we arrived safely. This was supposed to be a skill-sharpening affair, and I think we greatly achieved that from the people of Nakuru and its environs.

The games were venued at Menengai High School, and immediately after touching down, the Ladies Team was ordered to change and get onto the pitch. The Snipers they are, they did their best and drew 2-2, with the hosts ladies. The men teams was in there after and beat the hosts men 3-1. The second game for the Ladies went 1-0 from them as they beat the hosts in the second fixture.

NO LOVE LOST
What followed for the Men team was what I will call REAL FIELD HOCKEY. This was when Nakuru Athletics hockey team come on, using tactics we were not very conversant with. Clearly they had their game plan laid out very well, and we did everything to absorb their massive pressure from minute one. The team was composed of 'people who understand' what field hockey is all about, and they hit us 5-0.

Men Team watching on
It was after this game that we got useful tips from the coach of the team (who mind you was also playing), a lecture that took about 40 minutes which was accompanied by practical works. Even with the lose, every team member learnt something new from the 'Wazees', with its application coming soon in the regional games.

We went and Conquered! Our successful Meru tour in pictures

So, if for once you thought that the Snipers hit the road all those months just for the sake of it, then you are mistaken. Victory was what we wanted, and so we went for it. When speaking about Victory, then maybe one should read the word in capital letters to fully tell the kind of Victory we achieved.

It begun with a superb performance from the Snipers against the hosts (Meru MTC), whom even with much experience than our team in this kind of games, we outclassed and outdid them, hitting then not once...and not twice...but thrice to seal a victory of 3-0, against the self-proclaimed champions. All goals were scored by our number one hit-man, Abbas, in what many will call a fantastic hattrick, for a fantastic players.

As if that was not enough, The Snipers Ladies team follows suit and hit Embu MTC hockey team 3-1, with the solitary goal for the rival team seeming t have been hit way behind the D-line. Even so, no other mistake was made as the Ladies did what The Snipers are meant to do, and won the game topping the qualifiers as number one.

Since the ladies had only two teams in the zonal, they both qualified so no second game was needed for them. As for the Men Team, The Snipers had to play Embu to determine which two teams qualified to the regionals.

If only KMTC Embu hockey team knew what awaited them against The Snipers, then it would have been of great importance to avoid the fixture all the same. 7-1 was the final score, with a chain of several other misses been witness in the interval which would have told a very DIFFERENT story in the long run. The goals came left and right, with Peter and on-sub Kamah also getting their name onto the score sheet. (of course the usual suspects got the other five)

Now we have crossed one hurdle, and we are aware of the massive challenge that lies ahead. Our Mentality is firm and stable, and we are ready for whoever that comes our way. The Regional games are scheduled for the end of this month, and we have about one month or so to heal our injuries and get back to the pitch for usual training.
